The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, has invited applications from Indian nationals for the position of Senior Research Fellow (SRF) under a research project sponsored by the Department of Atomic Energy, Mumbai.

The selection will be conducted through a walk-in interview on 18 August 2026.

Project Title

“Development and evaluation of similar and dissimilar weld joints between AISI316LN SS and grade P91 using novel variants of A-GTAW”

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should possess:

• First Class B.Tech.

• First Class M.Tech.

with specialization in areas such as:

• Welding Engineering

• Production Engineering

• Mechanical Engineering

• Manufacturing Engineering

• Metallurgical Engineering

GATE-qualified candidates will be preferred.

Key Responsibilities

The selected Senior Research Fellow will assist in:

• Planning and execution of project activities

• Procurement of relevant project materials/items

• Conducting experiments for development of weld joints

• Mechanical and metallurgical characterization

• Analysis of experimental results

• Preparation of technical reports

• Regular submission of project progress reports to the funding agency

Important Information

• Preference will be given to SC/ST candidates in case of equal qualifications and experience.

• No TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview.

• The selected candidate may get an opportunity for PhD admission, subject to satisfying IIT Roorkee’s PhD admission criteria.

Candidates with backgrounds in Welding, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Production or Metallurgical Engineering and an interest in advanced welding research are encouraged to attend the walk-in interview.
