Overview of Role
The Department of History at Wofford College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Modern Asian History beginning in Fall 2027.
Wofford College is an undergraduate liberal arts institution dedicated to the teacher-scholar model. Faculty teach a 3-1-3 course load (including the distinctive January "Interim" term for experiential/travel-based learning), actively mentor undergraduate students, and contribute to college-wide governance.
Key Responsibilities & Teaching Scope
Course Load & Schedule: Teach a 3-1-3 load across Fall, January Interim, and Spring terms.
Curricular Offerings:
Upper-division courses in Modern Asian History (19th and 20th centuries).
Survey of Modern East Asian History and an additional broad historical survey course.
Regular instruction in the first-year Liberal Arts Seminar (LIBA).
Mentorship & Service: Provide regular undergraduate academic advising, participate in departmental activities, and engage in campus-wide committee service.
Qualifications & Candidate Profile
Required Education: Ph.D. in History or Asian Studies completed prior to the start of the appointment.
Instructional Experience: Demonstrated collegiate teaching experience is preferred.
Institutional Fit: Commitment to undergraduate teaching, student advising, and the mission and core values of a residential liberal arts college.
