Overview of Role
The Media Studies unit in the School of Design and Communication at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point invites applications for a Teaching Professor with Assistant Rank position starting in January or August 2027.
The appointed faculty member will focus heavily on undergraduate teaching and will be primarily responsible for building and launching a dynamic new program in Sports & Performance Media, bridging critical media studies, live broadcasting, and hands-on digital production workflows.
Key Responsibilities & Instructional Scope
Program Development & Teaching: Build, design, and instruct coursework in Sports & Performance Media, digital video production, audio production, and live streaming.
Campus Broadcast Leadership: Establish and direct multi-camera broadcast initiatives across campus, overseeing student-run production teams to capture and livestream high-stakes events (including athletics and College of Fine Arts & Communication music, dance, and theatre performances).
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Interface and collaborate with faculty and students across Media Studies, Professional Communication, and Graphic Design.
Student Mentorship & Advising: Supervise student production crews and instructional employees, provide academic and career advising, and advance student-centered pedagogy.
Qualifications & Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications:
Terminal degree (M.F.A. or Ph.D.) in Media Studies, Sports Media, Media Production, Broadcasting, Digital Media, or a closely related discipline by time of appointment.
Demonstrated technical expertise with industry-standard production hardware, software, and streaming tools (video switchers, character generators, audio mixing consoles, and encoders).
Capacity to teach across all undergraduate levels in Media Studies.
Eligibility to work in the United States without employer sponsorship (no visa sponsorship provided).
Preferred Skills & Experience:
Experience teaching multi-camera field and studio production, live event broadcasting, and digital media streaming.
Proven track record of mentoring and managing student or entry-level production teams.
Experience or interest in developing client-facing or revenue-generating production models.
Ability to integrate cultural dialogues, identity awareness, and critical inquiry into sports and performance media instruction.
Benefits & Compensation
Starting annual 9-month salary range of $57,000 – $62,000.
