Overview of Role

The Department of Political Science in the College of Letters & Science at the University of Wisconsin–Madison invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The appointed faculty member will publish original empirical research, deliver high-quality instruction and mentoring in Chinese Politics, and contribute to university and disciplinary governance.

Key Responsibilities & Teaching Load

  • Research & Scholarship: Conduct and publish original, empirical research in Chinese politics and related subfields.

  • Teaching & Mentorship: Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in Political Science with a focus on student-centered, evidence-based pedagogy.

  • Teaching Load: Standard departmental load is three courses per academic year (two in one semester, one in the other), adjusted from the statutory baseline.

  • Service & Citizenship: Participate in departmental, collegiate, and university governance, as well as broader national and international academic service.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Ph.D. in Political Science or a closely related discipline (Ph.D. required by the start date of appointment).

  • Research Record: Strong, productive research agenda with an established record of high-quality scholarly publication or outstanding publishing potential.

  • Teaching & Mentoring: Demonstrated dedication to student-centered teaching, purposeful instructional planning, and fostering an inclusive academic environment where all students can thrive.
