Overview of Role

The Department of Finance and Business Law in the College of Business and Economics at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Finance and Business Law commencing in August 2027.

As the largest AACSB-accredited business school in Wisconsin, the College of Business and Economics serves approximately 4,000 undergraduate business majors and nearly 1,000 graduate students across BBA, MS, MBA, and DBA programs. The department seeks an educator and scholar dedicated to high-impact teaching, student mentoring, rigorous research, and institutional service.

Key Responsibilities & Teaching Scope

  • Instructional Load & Course Delivery:

    • Deliver a standard 24-credit annual instructional load across undergraduate and graduate levels (BBA in Finance, MS in Finance, MBA, and/or DBA).

    • Course Release Policy: Faculty who maintain Scholarly Academic (SA) status under AACSB standards receive up to 3 credits of release time per semester to support scholarly productivity.

    • Subject areas include: Corporate Finance, Investments, Financial Planning, Real Estate, Insurance, Banking, and/or Fintech.

  • Student Mentorship & Office Hours:

    • Maintain at least eight (8) weekly office hours for student consultation and academic advising.

    • Use institutional advising tools (Navigate) and learning platforms (Canvas) for timely student communication (within 24–48 business hours).

  • Research & Scholarly Agenda:

    • Maintain an active research pipeline contributing to the field of Finance.

    • Disseminate findings through peer-reviewed academic journals, presentations, and conferences, with opportunities to involve undergraduate or graduate students in research projects.

  • Institutional & Professional Service:

    • Participate in departmental, college, and university committees, program assessment, curriculum development, and graduation ceremonies in alignment with the Wisconsin Idea.

Qualifications & Candidate Profile

  • Required Qualifications:

    • Terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Finance or a closely related discipline completed by the time of appointment.

    • ABD Policy: ABD candidates are eligible to apply provided their degree is conferred by August 2027. (If not completed by August 2027, the candidate will be placed on a one-year contract with required degree completion before January 2028).

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching and course management using LMS tools (Canvas, Blackboard, or Brightspace).

    • Strong record of scholarly achievement and peer-reviewed publishing potential.

    • Ability or enthusiasm to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications and Financial Technology (Fintech) concepts into course instruction and mentoring.

    • Demonstrated competence in working effectively within diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic communities.

Remuneration & Benefits Package

  • Competitive Base Compensation: Minimum $140,000 starting annual salary.
