The Department of Linguistics at The University of Texas at Austin is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Instruction in Semantics for the 2026–2027 academic year. This is a one-year faculty appointment offering an excellent opportunity for scholars with expertise in semantics and pragmatics to contribute to teaching, research, and student mentorship at one of the leading linguistics departments in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pursue independent research alongside teaching responsibilities.

Research Areas

The department welcomes applicants with expertise in Semantics or Pragmatics, particularly those whose research complements existing strengths in:

  • Syntax and Semantics

  • Computational Linguistics

  • Historical Linguistics

  • Descriptive and Documentary Linguistics

  • Sign Language Linguistics

  • Phonetics and Phonology

  • Psycholinguistics

Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • A Ph.D. in Linguistics or a closely related field completed by the time of appointment.
