The Department of European and Eurasian Studies at The University of Texas at Austin is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Instruction in Swedish. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position for the 2026–2027 academic year, offering an opportunity to teach Swedish language and culture while contributing to one of the leading Scandinavian studies programs in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will:

• Teach the two-semester intensive Swedish language sequence.

• Teach Advanced Swedish courses.

• Deliver a course on Children's Literature of Northern Europe.

• Potentially teach a course on Sweden: Innovating for the World.

• Collaborate with instructors of other Scandinavian languages, including Danish and Norwegian.

• Contribute to departmental service and academic activities.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

• A Master's degree in Swedish or a closely related field (Ph.D. preferred).

• Native or near-native proficiency in both Swedish and English.

• A strong record of university-level teaching.

• Experience in curriculum development, student mentoring, and academic supervision is preferred.

Appointment & Renewal

The appointment includes the possibility of annual and multi-year renewal, subject to:

• Satisfactory job performance.

• Departmental needs.

• Availability of program funding.
