Tezpur University (A Central University), Assam invites applications for 05 Assistant Professor positions on a contractual basis in the Departments of Social Work and Education under Advertisement Nos. 23/2026 and 24/2026.

The appointments will initially be for 11 months or until regular vacancies are filled, whichever is earlier, with provision for further extension based on requirement and satisfactory performance.

Essential Qualifications – Social Work

Candidates may fulfil the prescribed eligibility through the applicable route specified by Tezpur University.

Eligibility Route A

• Ph.D. in the advertised area of subject/specialization.

• Minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade in the preceding Master's Degree in the concerned/relevant/allied subject from:

  • An Indian University, or

  • An equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.

• The Ph.D. should comply with applicable UGC Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree Regulations, 2009 or 2016, including subsequent amendments.

Candidates registered for Ph.D. prior to 11 July 2009 will be governed by the applicable institutional ordinances/by-laws/regulations, subject to fulfilment of prescribed conditions relating to regular-mode Ph.D., external evaluation, open viva, research publications and conference/seminar presentations.

Essential Qualifications – Education

Candidates should fulfil either of the prescribed qualification pathways.

Eligibility Route A

Option 1

• Ph.D. in the advertised area of subject/specialization.

• Master's Degree in Education with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade.

OR

Option 2

• Ph.D. in the advertised area of subject/specialization.

• M.Sc./M.A. in any subject with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade.

• B.Ed. with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade.

The Ph.D. should comply with applicable UGC regulations.

Eligibility Route B

Candidates may also qualify where the Ph.D. degree has been obtained from a foreign university/institution ranked among the top 500 globally under recognised ranking systems such as:

• QS World University Rankings

• Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings

• Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU)

subject to the conditions specified by Tezpur University.

Desirable Candidate Profile

Preference may be given to applicants demonstrating:

• Strong academic credentials in the relevant discipline.

• Relevant university-level teaching experience.

• Quality research publications.

• Appropriate specialization aligned with the advertised position.

• Experience in research, curriculum development and student mentoring.

• Ability to contribute effectively to departmental academic activities.

Appointment Conditions

• Appointments will be made on a contractual basis.

• Initial tenure will be 11 months.

• The appointment may end earlier if the corresponding regular vacancy is filled.

• Further extension may be considered based on:

  • University requirements

  • Satisfactory performance

• Other conditions, remuneration and selection requirements will be governed by the respective Tezpur University advertisements.
