Overview of Role

The Department of Communication at Rollins College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication beginning in August 2027.

Key Responsibilities & Teaching Scope

  • Core Course Delivery: Teach foundational undergraduate courses in the Communication major:

    • COM 100: Introduction to Communication

    • COM 285: Research Methods

    • COM 480: Senior Seminar (Capstone Course)

    • Contributions to the College’s general education curriculum.

  • Elective Development: Design and teach advanced electives in areas of expertise, such as:

    • Persuasion & Communication Theory

    • Civic Engagement & Crisis Communication

    • Digital Media & Emerging Communication Technologies (including AI literacy)

    • Communication intersecting with global challenges.

  • Scholarly Productivity: Maintain an active research pipeline with sustained potential for peer-reviewed publication.

  • Service & Co-Curricular Engagement: Participate in departmental and college governance, student advising, and departmental initiatives (e.g., Lambda Pi Eta honor society, Florida Communication Association, or intercollegiate speech and debate/forensics).

Qualifications & Candidate Profile

  • Minimum Requirements:

    • Ph.D. in Communication or a closely related discipline completed by August 2027.

    • Demonstrated excellence (or strong potential) in teaching undergraduate foundational communication and research methods courses.

    • Active scholarly agenda with evidence of continuous research output.

    • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and integrating diverse perspectives into teaching and service.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience integrating emerging communication technologies and AI literacy into course design.

    • Track record of mentoring undergraduate students in scholarly research projects.

  • Work Authorization & Visa Notice:

    • Proof of U.S. work authorization required (Form I-9 verification).

    • Note: The College may not be able to offer H-1B visa sponsorship or cover petition fees under current federal guidance.
