Overview of Role

The School of Social Work at Bridgewater State University (ranked in the top 100 Schools of Social Work by U.S. News & World Report) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning in September 2027.

The school delivers CSWE-accredited BSW and MSW programs serving approximately 550 students. The appointed faculty member will deliver undergraduate and graduate coursework, mentor students, and engage in justice-informed scholarship supported by university research funding mechanisms.

Key Responsibilities & Teaching Scope

  • Instructional Delivery: Teach courses across undergraduate (BSW) and graduate (MSW) levels in areas including:

    • Research Methods

    • Human Behavior and the Social Environment

    • Dynamics of Diversity and Oppression

    • Direct Practice (Individuals, Families, Groups, Communities)

    • Practicum Seminars / Field Education

  • Delivery Formats: Deliver instruction across face-to-face, hybrid, online, and hyflex models, including evening and occasional weekend courses for non-traditional learners.

  • Service & Mentorship: Advise students, assist with curriculum assessment and accreditation tasks, and contribute to department, college, and university governance.

Qualifications & Candidate Profile

  • Required Education & Practice:

    • Earned doctorate in Social Work or a closely related discipline awarded by September 1, 2027.

    • Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited program.

    • Minimum of two (2) years of post-MSW direct practice experience.

  • Competencies & Vision:

    • Demonstrated commitment to equity, accessibility, social justice, and community engagement in research, practice, or pedagogy.

    • Evidence of ongoing scholarly activity and commitment to public higher education.

    • Proficiency in educational technology, simulation methods, or innovative instructional pilots.

Remuneration & Benefits

  • Starting salary range of $75,000 – $85,000 per annum in accordance with Appendix O of the MSCA collective bargaining agreement.
