Eligibility Criteria & Pay Levels (7th CPC)

Professor

• PhD in relevant discipline

• Outstanding research contributions

• Supervision of doctoral students / major projects

• Minimum 10 years post-doctoral experience

• Age limit: Below 45 years

• Pay Level: Level 14A

Associate Professor

• PhD with strong research profile

• Minimum 6 years post-doctoral experience

• Age limit: Below 45 years

• Pay Level: Level 13A2

Assistant Professor – Grade I

• PhD with first-class academic record

• Minimum 3 years post-PhD experience

• Age limit: Below 35 years

• Pay Level: Level 12 (upgradable to Level 13A1)

Assistant Professor – Grade II

• PhD with first-class academic record

• Age limit: Below 35 years

• Pay Level: Level 10 (temporary, up to 3 years)

Age relaxation applies as per Government of India rules.

Selection Process

Faculty selection at ISI follows a multi-stage, rigorous evaluation process:

1. Screening by Divisional Screening Committee (DSC-R)
   – Evaluation of eligibility, research output, teaching proposal, and references

2. Research Presentation & Teaching Demonstration

3. External Peer Review

4. Final Interview by Selection Committee

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted at each stage.

Institutional Support for New Faculty

ISI offers strong professional and personal support to newly appointed faculty members:

• Startup research grant up to ₹5 lakh (Assistant Professor Grade I)

• Cumulative Professional Development Allowance (CPDA) of ₹3 lakh per 3 years
