Job Purpose
The University of Glasgow invites applications for the role of Research Assistant / Associate to contribute to the EU Climinvest Project. This project develops innovative technologies to assess and create sustainable climate investments.
The postholder will explore the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) to build AI agents for risk assessment and ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) evaluation of green investment projects. Additional responsibilities include creating advanced search and recommendation tools to support banks, investment firms, and stakeholders in developing climate-friendly financial solutions.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
- Conduct high-quality research aligned with project deliverables.
- Analyse and interpret data; prepare technical reports and publications.
- Present research at national and international conferences.
- Assist in identifying funding opportunities and drafting proposals.
- Collaborate across disciplines and contribute to research impact.
- Supervise and mentor students and junior researchers.
- Participate in modest teaching and administrative responsibilities.
🎓 Qualifications & Skills
Essential:
- Honours degree (SCQF Level 10) in a relevant discipline.
- Specialist knowledge in Information Retrieval, Recommender Systems, Machine Learning, or AI.
- Expertise in Large Language Models, Conversational AI, Agentic AI.
- Strong IT/software knowledge (PyTorch, TensorFlow, PyTerrier, Docker, etc.).
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven experience in empirical research and academic writing.
Desirable:
- Ph.D. (awarded or near completion) in a relevant field.
- Experience in FinTech or GreenTech applications.
- Track record of publications in leading conferences (SIGIR, ACL, EMNLP, ICML, AAAI, NeurIPS).
- Experience in translating research into economic/societal impact.
