Overview
This special issue seeks original research that strengthens the mathematical foundations of AI in transportation. It emphasizes rigorous theory, novel formulations, foundational algorithms, and provable guarantees that help AI systems become reliable and trustworthy in safety-critical transport settings. The issue is especially interested in work that links AI with transportation-specific structures such as traffic flow, queuing, network constraints, route choice, and behavior theory.
Key Research Themes
Physics-informed and theory-guided AI models for transportation problems.
New optimization, learning, and reinforcement learning algorithms with provable properties.
Equilibrium and game-theoretic foundations for AI-driven transportation systems.
Statistical and learning-theoretic foundations such as generalization, sample complexity, identifiability, and stability.
Formal guarantees for fairness, explainability, verification, validation, and certification.
