About the Special Issue

This Special Issue explores Common-Good Human Resource Management (CGHRM) as a distinct and evolving approach to sustainable HRM that prioritizes societal well-being and the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) alongside organizational performance. CGHRM advocates fair employment relationships, stakeholder participation, and strong psychological contracts while addressing economic, social, and environmental challenges.

The issue seeks to deepen understanding of CGHRM across different organizational settings and geographical contexts by examining how institutions, stakeholder interests, and political-economic conditions influence the adoption and effectiveness of common-good HRM practices. It also aims to develop meaningful global and comparative perspectives on how organizations can balance common-good objectives with market-driven performance.

Topics of Interest

Submissions may address, but are not limited to:

  • Empirical distinctiveness of CGHRM from other forms of sustainable HRM

  • Determinants, practices, policies, work systems, and outcomes of CGHRM

  • The role of institutions and stakeholder interests in shaping CGHRM adoption

  • Contextual differences in CGHRM practices across the Global North and Global South

  • The influence of HR departments in promoting common-good performance

  • Indigenous models and practices of CGHRM in emerging economies

  • The role of religiosity and spirituality in common-good HRM practices

  • CGHRM implementation in businesses, NGOs, public organizations, SMEs, and multinational corporations

  • Comparative studies of common-good and personal-good organizational performance

  • Employee outcomes, ethical behavior, and organizational citizenship associated with CGHRM

  • Industry-academia collaborations and context-sensitive approaches to sustainable HRM

  • Political-economic factors influencing the effectiveness of CGHRM practices

Submission Guidelines

  • The Special Issue welcomes conceptual, empirical, inductive, mixed-method, and comparative research.

  • Authors are encouraged to clearly articulate the unique political and economic context of their research setting.

  • Industry-academia collaborative research and comparative studies across countries and regions are particularly encouraged.

  • Manuscripts should be submitted through the journal's submission system and indicate the special issue title in both the submission process and cover letter.

  • Authors may participate in the 4th Common Good HRM International Conference 2026 Paper Development Workshop for feedback and guidance; however, participation is not mandatory for submission.
