Overview

This special issue examines how aviation can move toward net-zero by 2050 through a mix of behavioral change, technological innovation, smarter operations, and low-carbon fuels. It highlights the need for practical and policy-relevant research on sustainable aviation fuel, aircraft and engine design, carbon offsets, carbon capture, and financing mechanisms that can support the transition. The issue is especially interested in work that compares policy and consumer responses across regions and evaluates what decarbonisation pathways are realistic and effective.

• Aircraft and engine efficiency, fleet renewal, and design.
