Overview
Generative AI is causing widespread disruption across industry, national security, education, and political landscapes. This special issue aims to assess the efficacy of existing policy frameworks and identify where new laws or regulations are required to manage this rapid technological evolution. The editors seek empirical, conceptual, and theoretical contributions that evaluate governance modes—ranging from training data and algorithmic transparency to user experience and product marketplaces—at micro, meso, and macro levels of analysis.
Key Research Themes
Governance & Regulation: Analysis of national and international AI policymaking approaches, including standards for risk, security, and content moderation.
Rights & Ethics: Policy responses regarding intellectual property (IP), privacy, reputation management, and strategies to mitigate AI bias and lack of transparency.
Societal Impact: Challenges posed by synthetic media (e.g., deepfakes), the role of public participation in AI governance, and critical/cultural perspectives on automation.
Policy Recommendations: A core requirement of all submissions is the inclusion of actionable policy recommendations that address current governance gaps.
