Overview
This special issue examines how transition frameworks apply to mining and natural resource governance in Latin America, and where they may need to be revised or resisted. It emphasizes shifting extraction frontiers, post-mining futures, mineral criticality, and the social and ecological legacies of extractivism. The issue seeks work that is grounded in the region’s realities and that connects governance, territorial change, and community conflict.
Key Research Themes
Energy, sustainability, and post-mining transitions.
Shifting materialities and locations of extraction.
Critical minerals, waste recovery, and deep-sea mining.
Resource nationalism and historical legacies of extraction.
Legal, informal, and illegal mining distinctions.
Socio-ecological conflicts and environmental justice.
