The Physical Internet (PI) is rapidly evolving from a visionary concept into a practical reality. Across industries, organizations are increasingly experimenting with pilots, demonstrators, living laboratories, and large-scale initiatives to explore how Physical Internet principles can be effectively implemented, governed, and scaled within modern supply chain ecosystems.

As supply chains become increasingly interconnected, intelligent, and sustainability-oriented, there is a growing need to understand how open logistics networks, digital platforms, collaborative business models, and data-driven decision-making can enable more efficient and resilient supply systems. The Physical Internet offers a transformative framework for rethinking logistics operations, promoting interoperability, and facilitating collaborative value creation among stakeholders.

This Special Issue seeks rigorous, practice-oriented, and empirically grounded contributions that provide actionable insights for managers, policymakers, and supply chain stakeholders. It particularly encourages studies that bridge theory and practice by addressing real-world implementation challenges and demonstrating practical pathways toward Physical Internet adoption and supply chain transformation.

Global supply chains are under increasing pressure to become more resilient, sustainable, collaborative, and digitally enabled. The Physical Internet presents an innovative paradigm capable of transforming traditional logistics systems into highly interconnected networks that optimize resource utilization and improve operational efficiency.

This Special Issue provides an important platform for advancing knowledge on how organizations can successfully implement Physical Internet principles while generating meaningful managerial and societal impact.
