Recent transformations in higher education have led to the decline of several economics departments historically associated with heterodox economic thought. Despite the importance of these programs in shaping alternative economic perspectives, there remains limited documentation of their origins, development, sustainability, and, in some cases, dismantling.
This Special Issue seeks to document and analyse the histories of heterodox economics programs across the world. It encourages studies that examine how these departments emerged, the individuals and ideas that shaped them, the challenges they encountered, and the factors that contributed to their growth or decline.
The issue particularly welcomes research based on archival evidence and oral histories that can provide rich historical accounts of heterodox traditions in economics education and research.
