Overview
This special issue examines how China has developed post-disaster recovery systems in response to major events such as the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake and the 2010 Zhouqu debris flow. It critically evaluates the scientific evidence for recovery and resilience-building interventions and seeks research on the long-term impacts of reconstruction, rehabilitation, and resilience programs. The issue also aims to produce transferable lessons for other high-risk regions.
Scope
The call is organized around four themes: recovery, reconstruction, rehabilitation, and resilience. It welcomes work on emergency public health, logistics, information management, needs assessment, infrastructure, socio-economic impacts, cultural heritage, environmental reconstruction, medical and mental rehabilitation, community cohesion, biodiversity restoration, policy development, disaster risk reduction, economic resilience, and support for vulnerable groups. Submissions should examine governance, technological applications, community engagement, and socio-economic outcomes.
Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted through Editorial Manager using the article type “VSI: China’s Disaster Recovery.” The journal’s guide for authors should be followed when preparing the manuscript. The call indicates that submissions will be reviewed by at least two independent experts, and accepted papers will be published together on ScienceDirect. The deadline is 30 September 2026.
