About the Special Issue
National Identities invites submissions for its Special Issue on "Victimhood and the Crisis of Transnational Empathy in Contemporary National Identities."
This Special Issue explores how victimhood narratives, memory, nationalism, and identity formation shape contemporary national identities across the world. It examines how collective memories of suffering influence political belonging, exclusion, and moral legitimacy, while questioning the rise of victimhood nationalism and the decline of transnational empathy.
The issue encourages interdisciplinary scholarship that investigates literary, cultural, media, and political representations of victimhood, memory regimes, nationalism, and global histories of violence. Contributions are expected to advance critical debates on postcolonialism, memory studies, transnational solidarity, and ethical approaches to shared histories of suffering.
