About This Special Issue
The X-Minute City is an adaptable concept for infrastructure and urban design that encourages fair and equitable access to urban facilities through active mobility — walking or cycling — and public transport. Grounded in neighbourhood proximity models and chrono-urbanism, this concept aims to improve accessibility and quality of life, reduce dependency on private cars, and build more sustainable urban environments.
This special issue seeks to examine real-world applications, innovative implementation strategies, and methodological advances that support the deployment of the X-Minute City across diverse urban contexts. It will bring together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to define how municipal engineering can contribute to the creation of inclusive, resilient, and time-efficient cities — where opportunity is a function of design rather than geography.
