ABOUT THIS SPECIAL ISSUE

Mental Health Review Journal (MHRJ) is pleased to announce a special issue on Therapeutic Communities and Enabling Environments. This special issue welcomes submissions that critically and creatively explore how therapeutic cultures are developed, managed, and sustained across diverse contexts.

The special issue invites contributions that examine practice, lived experience, relational practice, and the influence of social and political policy on therapeutic settings. Opinion pieces and letters that disseminate good practice, share creativity and innovations, and contribute to wider discussions around therapeutic community values and approaches are also warmly encouraged.


ARTICLE TYPES ACCEPTED

This special issue welcomes a broad range of contribution formats, including:

  • Original Research Articles

  • Systematic and Narrative Reviews

  • Case Studies

  • Organisational Studies

  • Commentaries

  • Opinion Pieces

  • Letters to the Editor


SCOPE & THEME AREAS

We invite submissions on (but not limited to) the following areas:

  • Therapeutic cultures and their development — How therapeutic cultures are established, nurtured, and sustained across different organisational and community settings.

  • Enabling environments — The physical, relational, and institutional conditions that support therapeutic practice and recovery.

  • Lived experience — First-hand accounts and perspectives from individuals who have participated in therapeutic communities and enabling environments.

  • Relational practice — The dynamics of therapeutic relationships, group processes, and community belonging in mental health settings.

  • Social and political policy — The influence of broader social, political, and policy frameworks on therapeutic communities and their sustainability.

  • Innovation and good practice — Creative approaches, innovations, and examples of good practice in therapeutic community models.

  • Therapeutic community values and approaches — Critical explorations of the core values, principles, and evolving approaches within therapeutic community practice.

Eligibility: Submitted articles must not have been previously published, nor should they be under consideration for publication elsewhere while under review.
