The Next Frontier in Business: How Generative and Agentic AI are Driving Transformation

JOURNAL NAME: Journal of Systems and Information Technology

PUBLISHER: Emerald Publishing

SUBMISSION OPENS: 15 December 2025

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 01 July 2026

ABOUT THIS SPECIAL ISSUE

Generative and Agentic AI are no longer futuristic concepts — they are actively transforming how businesses operate, make decisions, and create value. These technologies enable autonomy, adaptability, and continuous learning, offering unprecedented opportunities for efficiency and innovation across industries. At the same time, they introduce significant challenges around ethics, governance, and human oversight.

Agentic AI goes beyond traditional automation, functioning as "digital co-workers" capable of proactive decision-making, negotiation, and collaboration. Combined with Generative AI, these systems are reshaping workflows, marketing strategies, and industrial ecosystems through technologies such as digital twins and multimodal orchestration frameworks. Understanding these shifts is critical for designing governance models that ensure transparency, accountability, and trust while mitigating risks like bias, privacy breaches, and ethical misalignment.

This special issue aims to bring together cutting-edge research that examines the organisational, technical, and societal implications of these technologies. We seek contributions that explore responsible adoption, governance frameworks, and strategies for harmonising human and AI capabilities in dynamic business environments.

We welcome original, unpublished work employing qualitative, quantitative, mixed-method, or design science approaches. Submissions should demonstrate methodological rigour and offer clear implications for research, practice, and policy.
