Overview

This special issue—published by Elsevier—aims to shift the focus from merely identifying mental health challenges in entrepreneurship to designing, testing, and scaling actionable, evidence-based solutions. It encourages the use of implementation science—specifically the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR)—to bridge the gap between academic research and the practical realities of managing well-being in diverse and dynamic entrepreneurial settings.

Key Research Themes

  • Intervention Research: Designing and evaluating tools to reduce stress, prevent burnout, and improve mental health, including mindfulness programs, coaching, and digital health tools adapted for entrepreneurs.

  • Entrepreneurship Education: Integrating well-being management into curricula and acceleration programs to build resilience and sustainable entrepreneurial habits from the outset.

  • Implementation Science: Applying frameworks like CFIR or RE-AIM to understand how well-being interventions can be effectively adopted, scaled, and sustained across different venture stages and ecosystem contexts.

  • Contextual & Structural Influences: Exploring how organizational culture, investor pressure, and co-founder dynamics influence the success of well-being interventions.

  • Theoretical Advancements: Proposing new frameworks that embed mental health into entrepreneurship theory and re-examining classic constructs like "grit" or "hustle" through the lens of well-being.

Why This Issue Matters

While research has effectively documented the "dark side" of entrepreneurship—stress, burnout, and mental health struggles—there is a dearth of research offering summative solutions. This special issue—published by Elsevier—seeks to rectify this by encouraging rigorous, actionable, and intervention-focused research, ultimately fostering a culture of sustainable entrepreneurship that prioritizes the health of those driving innovation.
