Academic Mobility in an Era of Authoritarianization, Conflict, and Retreating Academic Freedom

Journal: Journal of International Cooperation in Education
Manuscript Submission Deadline: 31 December 2026

Journal of International Cooperation in Education invites submissions for its Special Issue on Academic Mobility in an Era of Authoritarianization, Conflict, and Retreating Academic Freedom.

About the Special Issue

Global academic mobility is undergoing profound transformation as armed conflicts, democratic backsliding, restrictive visa policies, and declining academic freedom reshape international higher education. This Special Issue seeks to examine how these developments are influencing the movement of scholars and students, international collaboration, and the future of academic cooperation worldwide.

The issue welcomes empirical, comparative, and conceptual research that explores the effects of authoritarianism, conflict, displacement, and policy changes on academic mobility. Contributions that provide new theoretical frameworks, policy insights, and innovative approaches to sustaining international cooperation in education are particularly encouraged.
