The Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies (JEMS) invites Special Issue proposals that bring together high-quality, innovative, and cutting-edge research on migration, ethnic relations, diversity, and their societal consequences. As an interdisciplinary journal, JEMS welcomes contributions from diverse theoretical perspectives, methodologies, disciplines, and geographical contexts.
Special Issues are envisioned as opportunities for groups of scholars to collectively advance a specific research field by producing coherent and agenda-setting contributions. Proposals should clearly articulate an original research idea, demonstrate how the collection advances existing knowledge, and establish its relevance to contemporary debates in migration and ethnic studies.
JEMS particularly encourages proposals that address emerging and under-represented topics, novel research areas, and regions of the world that have received limited scholarly attention. Proposals led by scholars from the Global South are especially welcomed.

Accepted Special Issues will undergo a multi-stage review process coordinated by the Guest Editors and the JEMS Editorial Team. Guest Editors will oversee external reviews of individual manuscripts and prepare an agenda-setting editorial introduction that synthesizes the contributions and demonstrates the collectionโs overall scholarly advancement.
The complete Special Issue collection is expected to be submitted within two years of proposal acceptance and will subsequently undergo collective external review before the final publication decision.
