Submission window: 20 January 2026 – 30 August 2026
This special issue will publish extended versions of the best research papers presented at the 29th IEEE International Enterprise Distributed Object Computing Conference (EDOC 2025). It focuses on enterprise computing, i.e., the design, engineering, and operation of software and information systems that support large organisations and cross‑organisation workflows, including emerging advances in agentic AI, business process management, cyber‑physical resilience, and sustainable enterprise transformation.
Why this issue matters
Enterprise Computing underpins critical business operations by integrating interconnected applications, distributed services, and cross‑organisational information flows.
The EDOC 2025 conference highlighted cutting‑edge work on Agentic AI in enterprises, process mining, resilient cyber‑physical systems, enterprise architecture, and security, offering a strong pool of high‑quality, peer‑assessed research.
This special issue gives selected authors the opportunity to extend conference papers into journal‑level contributions, with deeper theoretical grounding, methodological detail, and practical implications.
Scope and topics of interest
The SI targets enterprise‑level models, methods, and tools for designing, evolving, and managing large‑scale software and information systems. Topics include, but are not limited to:
Enterprise architecture & engineering
Methods, frameworks, reference models, and tools for enterprise architecture.
Architecture for networked organisations and concerns such as interoperability, security, and sustainability.
Impact of AI, cloud, edge computing, and blockchain on enterprise architecture.
Service‑oriented architectures and systems
Service composition, orchestration, and choreography.
Service policies, contracts, and enforcement mechanisms.
Architectures for cyber‑physical systems and software‑level interoperability and security.
Model‑based software engineering
Model‑driven architectures and development, domain‑specific modeling languages (DSMLs), and low‑code platforms.
Engineering and use of digital twins and embedded models in enterprise systems.
Enterprise security and privacy
Information security, cybersecurity, sensing, and awareness.
Threat modeling, attack simulation, intrusion detection and prevention, blockchain and privacy‑preserving technologies, and SOA/enterprise‑architectural security.
Business process management and business rules
Process modeling, verification, configuration, and architectures; process mining and robotic process automation (RPA).
Business process agility, flexibility, and decision management, including process compliance and business‑rule languages and engines.
Semantics and information management
Business‑object modeling, taxonomies, and ontologies for enterprise knowledge integration.
Master data management, data quality, trustworthiness, and real‑time data analytics, combining data‑driven and symbolic modeling approaches.
