Overview
This special issue—published by Emerald Publishing—explores how Circular Decision-Making (CDM) can be operationalized to achieve measurable improvements in productivity, competitiveness, and systemic performance. It seeks to bridge the disconnect between the theory of circular economy (CE) transitions and the practical organizational routines, data architectures, and disclosure protocols required to enact them. The issue invites research that explicitly links circular data, measurement, and assessment with tangible impacts on productivity management and organizational performance across micro, meso, and macro levels.
Key Research Themes
Decision Support Systems: Models and frameworks that embed circularity into productivity management at the firm, supply chain, and regional levels.
Digitalization & AI: The role of AI and Big Data in enabling adaptive, data-driven CDM that simultaneously improves operational efficiency and sustainability outcomes.
Metrics & Indicators: Development and evaluation of performance indicators that successfully integrate circularity with traditional productivity and performance measurement systems.
Disclosure & Transparency: Designing frameworks and reporting practices that make circular performance "decision-useful" for managers and stakeholders, thereby supporting accountability and competitiveness.

Why This Issue Matters
Transitioning to a circular economy is often hindered by a "measurement gap," where decision-makers lack the actionable data required to navigate complex sustainability trade-offs. This special issue—published by Emerald Publishing—aims to provide a holistic perspective on these challenges, evidencing how structured approaches to data and measurement can turn circularity into a strategic driver of productivity and performance rather than a cost-burden.
