Overview
This special issue brings together work at the intersection of criminology, criminal law, legal theory, and socio-legal studies to examine modern slavery and human trafficking. It focuses on the evolution of these crimes, the victims involved, the legal responsibility of both legal and natural persons, and the frameworks created for criminal liability, victim protection, and redress. It also highlights the role of the digital ecosystem and the practical challenges faced by public, private, and third-sector stakeholders.

Scope
The issue welcomes doctrinal, empirical, and theoretical contributions, including socio-legal, critical legal studies, comparative law, and interdisciplinary approaches. Topics include the fight against modern slavery and trafficking, legal frameworks, international actors, future trends, digital platforms and AI in facilitating exploitation, liability of digital providers, emerging transnational threats, and scam centres linked to modern slavery and trafficking. The call also invites original empirical work and critical evaluation of the law and theory in these areas.

Submission Information
Abstracts and biographical details must be submitted by 1 September 2026 through the online form. Only approved abstracts will be invited for manuscript submission. The manuscript deadline is 31 December 2026, and submissions must not exceed 10,000 words. Authors must include a title page with professional title, first name, surname, affiliation, email, bio, and keywords. Final papers should be uploaded through Editorial Manager, and the journal will review manuscripts under a blind peer-review process before publishing accepted papers online first. An online conference is also planned for 10 June 2026.
