About the Article Collection
The International Journal of Adolescence and Youth invites submissions for its Open Access Article Collection on "Youth, Digital Boundaries, and the Unsolicited Solicitation of Sexually Explicit Images."
This Article Collection seeks interdisciplinary research exploring the growing issue of unsolicited requests for, or sending of, sexually explicit images to young people. As digital communication becomes an integral part of adolescents' everyday lives, many youth experience unwanted exposure to explicit content or pressure to share intimate images. These experiences raise important questions surrounding digital consent, gendered expectations, online safety, psychological well-being, sexual agency, and platform responsibility.
While existing research has largely focused on consensual sexting among peers, this collection highlights the need to better understand nonconsensual, coercive, or manipulative image solicitation. The collection welcomes research that examines how young people negotiate digital sexual boundaries, how power operates in online spaces, and how technological, cultural, and social contexts influence both vulnerability and resilience.
