Entrepreneurship & Regional Development invites submissions for a Special Issue on โParenthood and Entrepreneurship: A New Research Agenda.โ The Special Issue seeks to advance understanding of how parenthood shapes, and is shaped by, entrepreneurial activity across diverse social, cultural, and regional contexts.
According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), nearly half of early-stage entrepreneurs globally are raising children. Parent-entrepreneurs often navigate the dual demands of family responsibilities and venture creation, influencing entrepreneurial motivations, practices, well-being, and business outcomes.
The Special Issue encourages explanatory, causal, interpretive, and social constructivist perspectives that examine the complex intersections between parenthood and entrepreneurship. Contributions may employ qualitative, quantitative, mixed-method, or conceptual approaches, with particular interest in longitudinal, comparative, and multilevel studies.

The Special Issue particularly seeks research that moves beyond individual entrepreneurs to explore how parenthood and entrepreneurship are simultaneously enacted within families, communities, and regional ecosystems. It encourages studies examining gender and care responsibilities, entrepreneurial identities, household negotiations, institutional embeddedness, and policy contexts influencing entrepreneurial experiences.
The issue also welcomes investigations into underexplored family forms, emerging parental identities, and the ways entrepreneurial activities influence children, family relationships, and long-term well-being.
