About the Special Issue
European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS) invites submissions for its Special Issue titled "Theorising Time in a Digital Era: New Horizons for IS Research."
As digital technologies increasingly shape organizational and societal life, the concept of time and temporality has become central to Information Systems (IS) research. This Special Issue seeks to advance theoretical and empirical understanding of how digital technologies influence temporal experiences, organizational rhythms, decision-making, innovation, and long-term societal transformation.
The issue welcomes diverse methodological and theoretical contributions that place time as a core analytical construct, moving beyond traditional notions of speed and duration to explore richer perspectives on temporal complexity across individual, organizational, and societal contexts.
Scope and Topics of Interest
Submissions may address, but are not limited to:
Time and temporality in Information Systems
Digital technologies and temporal complexity
Human interaction with digital platforms and infrastructures
Organizational rhythms, routines, and coordination
Digital transformation across micro, meso, artefact, and macro temporal scales
AI, data governance, and digital infrastructures
Digital collaboration, hybrid work, and asynchronous communication
Time-aware system design and Information Systems development
Computational approaches to studying temporality
Information Systems, sustainability, climate change, and long-term societal challenges
Submission Guidelines
Manuscript submission deadline: 01 November 2026
Empirical, conceptual, philosophical, methodological, and commentary papers are welcome.
Studies employing qualitative, quantitative, mixed-method, interpretive, critical, or computational approaches are encouraged.
Submissions should foreground the Information Systems artefact and make strong theoretical contributions to temporality research.
Authors should follow the European Journal of Information Systems author guidelines and submit manuscripts through the journal's submission system.
