𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲

Economic History of Developing Regions invites submissions for a Special Issue on the Business and Financial History of Colonialism. The issue explores how colonial and imperial systems mobilised capital, organised production and labour, generated returns, and distributed gains and costs across colonies and metropolitan economies.

The Special Issue primarily focuses on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and welcomes contributions examining colonial experiences across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

The editors particularly encourage submissions from early-career researchers and scholars working on underrepresented regions.

𝗧𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁

Submissions may address, but are not limited to:

• Colonial investment, capital flows, and the financing of expansion, administration, infrastructure, and extraction
• Banks, stock markets, investors, insurers, public finance, taxation, debt, and monetary regimes
• Colonial firms, concessionary companies, plantations, mining enterprises, and trading houses
• Firm performance, profitability, productivity, and business strategies
• Recruitment and management of labour
• Distribution of colonial gains and costs among firms, investors, workers, taxpayers, consumers, colonies, and metropoles

𝗦𝘂𝗯𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀

• Welcomes contributions from economic history, business history, financial history, and related disciplines
• Particularly interested in quantitative and archival research
• Both case studies and comparative studies are encouraged
• Full paper submissions will be invited following abstract review
• All manuscripts will undergo a double-blind peer-review process
• Expected publication year: 2028

𝗦𝘂𝗯𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀

Authors should submit an abstract of 400–600 words, including:

• Author affiliation
• Contact information
• Proposed research contribution and relevance to the Special Issue

Abstracts will be evaluated based on:

• Relevance to the Special Issue theme
• Strength of theoretical and/or empirical contribution
• Clarity and quality of writing
