CALL FOR PAPERS
Cultural Heritage Preservation through Digital Archiving for Sustainable Education
Journal: Digital Applications in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage
Publisher: Elsevier
Submission Deadline: 11 August 2026
Introduction
Preserving cultural heritage is essential for sustaining identity, continuity, and inclusive development in an increasingly digital world. Integrating digital archiving into education enables the long-term preservation of tangible and intangible heritage — such as manuscripts, monuments, folklore, and indigenous knowledge — while making them globally accessible through advanced technologies like high-resolution imaging and 3D scanning.
Embedding digital heritage resources into curricula enriches learning, fosters cultural empathy, and strengthens cross-cultural understanding. It also empowers communities to document and share their histories — supporting intergenerational knowledge transfer and local ownership.
Aligned with UNESCO's Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), this Special Issue explores how digital innovation can transform cultural memory into a living, inclusive educational resource.
Scope & Significance
This Special Issue sits at the intersection of digital technology, cultural heritage preservation, and sustainable education — addressing how digital archiving can serve not only as a preservation tool but as a transformative medium for education, community empowerment, and cross-cultural dialogue. It welcomes interdisciplinary contributions from archaeology, education, computer science, library science, and heritage studies.
