Current Issues in Language Planning invites high-quality submissions for its Special Issue on Language Policy and Planning in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.

About the Special Issue

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the global language landscape, influencing language governance, multilingual communication, digital literacy, and linguistic rights. As AI-powered technologies become increasingly integrated into public institutions, education, workplaces, and digital communication, they are emerging as powerful actors in language policy and planning (LPP).

This Special Issue seeks theoretical and empirical contributions examining how AI is reshaping language policy, governance, linguistic representation, language access, and multilingualism. It welcomes interdisciplinary research addressing both opportunities and challenges arising from AI-enabled language technologies.

Topics of Interest

Submissions may include, but are not limited to:

  • AI governance and language policy frameworks

  • Linguistic dimensions of AI regulation (e.g., EU AI Act)

  • AI, Natural Language Processing, and language representation

  • Bias, inequality, and multilingualism in AI systems

  • AI-mediated communication, translation, and chatbots
