This Article Collection focuses on how artificial intelligence is transforming finance and economic activity, creating powerful new opportunities alongside serious risks. It seeks rigorous, applicable, and replicable research that either (i) generates new AI-related insights for business and financial markets or (ii) uses reliable AI methods to contribute to knowledge in financial economics and business.

The call highlights AI’s growing role in classifying filings, detecting suspicious items, reading financial statements, designing investment strategies, and conducting text analysis on disclosures and earnings calls. At the same time, it emphasizes concerns around bias, errors, fairness, overreliance, transparency, cybersecurity, and long-term effects on human capital, jobs, and markets.

Scope

The Article Collection welcomes theoretical, empirical, and methodological work on:

• Outcomes of AI use in firms, investments, and financial institutions (efficiency, performance, information asymmetry, asset allocation, price discovery, workforce readiness, education).

• Concerns related to AI (bias, misinformation, privacy and cybersecurity threats, environmental harms from AI training, legal issues, reliability, and accountability).

• Long-term consequences for human capital, job design, new AI-related markets and industries, and broader macroeconomic effects.

• AI-assisted research methods, including textual analysis for sentiment and tone, evaluation of AI method robustness, and constructive critiques of AI-based research designs.

Submission details

Manuscripts should follow the Cogent Economics & Finance author guidelines and be submitted through the journal’s online system, clearly indicating the Article Collection “Leveraging the Power of AI in Building the Best for Our World.” This Collection particularly values work that supports real-world decision-making for investors, institutions, policymakers, researchers, and educators.
