About the Article Collection
As Artificial Intelligence increasingly mediates human emotions, relationships, identities, and everyday experiences, questions surrounding affective AI have become central to contemporary humanities and social science research. From emotionally responsive robots and AI companions to algorithm-driven social media and emotion recognition technologies, AI is reshaping how people experience, express, and understand emotion.
This Article Collection seeks theoretical and empirical contributions that critically examine the complex relationship between AI, emotions, identity, and algorithmic culture. It welcomes interdisciplinary perspectives exploring both the opportunities and ethical challenges posed by affective AI across diverse social, cultural, technological, and political contexts.
Scope and Topics of Interest
Submissions may address, but are not limited to:
AI, dating, relationships, and intimacy
Affective economies and emotional labour
Social media, apps, and algorithmic platforms
Affective and intimate publics
Robots, androids, and emotionally responsive machines
Health, wellbeing, and emotional AI
Bodies, perception, and human–AI interaction
Identity, including gender, race, class, sexuality, age, and disability
Emotion recognition and predictive technologies

Manuscript Submission Deadline: 15 March 2027
The Article Collection welcomes theoretical, empirical, and interdisciplinary research contributions.
This collection will be published as Open Access.
Authors should submit manuscripts through the Cogent Arts & Humanities online submission system.
During submission, select the appropriate Article Collection and choose Culture, Media, and Film as the relevant journal section to avoid processing delays.
