About this Special Issue
Tourism is one of the world’s largest industries and has largely recovered to around 88% of its pre‑pandemic level by the end of 2023 (UNWTO, 2024). Its growing influence across environmental, managerial, and public health domains calls for a reappraisal of tourism’s broader implications through integrated, interdisciplinary perspectives.
While tourism‑related environmental impacts, sustainability marketing, and overtourism have been widely studied, the linkages between tourism practices, sustainability, public health, and emerging technologies remain under‑explored. At the same time, the integration of generative artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, smart systems, and data‑driven platforms is reshaping how destinations are managed, how tourists behave, and how health and environmental goals are pursued.
This special issue seeks to advance interdisciplinary management research that bridges tourism, sustainability, public health, and emerging technologies. It invites conceptual and empirical work that connects organizational practices, tourist behaviour, environmental outcomes, wellbeing, and digital innovation, with an emphasis on responsible business practices and policy implications. Submissions from the Asia‑Pacific region are particularly encouraged, but high‑quality work from other geographic contexts is also welcome.
