The University of Florence (Italy) invites researchers to submit papers for the 2026 Florence Workshop on Behavioural and Experimental Economics, themed "Inequality and Discrimination." The workshop will bring together scholars working at the intersection of behavioural and experimental economics to discuss how inequality and discrimination shape economic decisions, institutions, and society.

Call for Papers

Researchers are invited to submit original research exploring behavioural and experimental approaches to inequality and discrimination. Submissions may include completed papers or advanced work in progress.

Suggested Topics

Contributions may address (but are not limited to):

  • Discrimination in economic decision-making and labour markets

  • Ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic discrimination in markets and institutions

  • Gender inequality, bargaining, strategic interaction, and wage outcomes

  • In-group and out-group dynamics, identity, and intergroup conflict

  • Redistribution preferences and public attitudes toward inequality

  • Behavioural foundations of taxation, public goods, and redistribution

  • Effects of inequality and polarization on beliefs, norms, and social behaviour

  • Intergenerational transmission of inequality and opportunity

  • Adaptation to unequal environments and welfare implications

  • Experimental and causal methods for studying inequality and discrimination

The workshop particularly welcomes research that goes beyond documenting inequality to understand how individuals and societies respond, adapt, and design better institutions.

Submission Guidelines

Authors should submit:

  • Project or paper title

  • Abstract (maximum 2,000 characters)

  • Full paper submission is optional but encouraged

Submissions should be made through the official workshop submission portal.

Registration Information

Participation is subject to a selective admission process, with approximately 25 speakers expected to be included in the final programme.

Please note:

  • There is no conference fee

  • Places are limited and allocated based on research quality and relevance

  • Auditors are welcome to attend the lectures

  • Social dinner, lunches, and coffee breaks will be provided
