AREAS
Management
The last couple of decades of technological progress has seen a massive disruption in our way of life. The fusion of digital, physical, and biological is blurring the boundaries between what was earlier separate domains. The exponential pace of growth of technological adoption requires that the entire edifice of traditional systems of production, management, and governance must be revamped to meet the demands of the new reality.
Economics
The doctoral program in Economics is designed to create a knowledge base to conceptualize and analyse economic problems with real-life applications. This program aims to produce a generation of economics scholars capable of conducting independent, original, academic, and practice-based research. Therefore, the modality of the program will be based on creating transferable skills across several fields and integrate activities that develop the ability to work with real-life problems using big datasets.
Psychology
The discipline of psychology has grown significantly over the past few decades, with psychologists now playing a significant role in a range of sectors such as education, medicine, public health, counselling and industry. The doctoral program in Psychology at FLAME aims to build on the success of its undergraduate program by training a new generation of researchers who carry out world-class research in the area of psychology.
Computing and Data Science
The massive technological disruptions that have taken place in the past few decades have been stimulated by the advances in computational technologies. This has led to an exponential growth in data availability paralleled with rapid advances in computational speed. The combination of the two has prompted the rise of a new methodology: data science which is being increasingly utilised to advance conventional fields of knowledge such as the sciences, business, social sciences, engineering etc.
Environmental Studies
‘Environmental studies’ encompasses research that addresses two of the major global challenges of current concern: climate change and biodiversity loss. In addition, professionals in the discipline can contribute to initiatives that will help meet many of the other Sustainable Development Goals, including food and water security and safety, affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, and life below water and on land.
Humanities
Various disciplines of Humanities, including literature, cultural studies, philosophy, religious studies, and film studies have been some of the pillars of FLAME’s Liberal Education since its inception.
Sociology
The doctoral program in Sociology aims to build researchers who are intellectually independent and can generate original research that is theoretically, analytically and empirically robust.
A Research Advisory committee (RAC) consisting of experts in the field will be constituted for each PhD candidate and will be the main body guiding the candidate in their research work. The RAC will have a Research Supervisor (a senior member of the faculty who will be the convener of the committee), a co-research Supervisor, one or more eminent scholars (internal or external), and the operational head of the area in which the doctoral work is conducted.
